You Know about AI - But what about AU?

I just bought a new computer 2 days ago. 💻️ 

For the most part, I’m loving it. It was a big upgrade from my previous one - which was 3 years old and had a bunch of things wrong with it. (Don’t get me started)

This new one has Windows 11 installed (Yes, I’m a “Windows Guy” and I’m sure Mac people are snickering) 🙃 

Anyway, one of the first things I did was post a Beehiiv review video about the email marketing software we’re using.

I figured the video quality would be better with the new computer.

But it was worse!

I used the same USB microphone as before, but the audio sounded like it had an echo (or was recorded using the internal mic on the computer).

It turned out I was using all the new “AI” default settings on Windows 11 to “improve sound quality”.

Well… These AI settings made things worse. So I needed to watch a video figuring out how to disable them!

I recorded a test video after disabling the AI - it sounded good.

The point is that in this race towards AI, companies want to infuse AI into everything for marketing reasons.

Sometimes AI makes things worse. I call it “AU” for Artificial Unintelligence.

I kind of feel bad for Australians, since AU is the code for their country.

As you guys know, we absolutely love figuring out how to use AI to earn money and actually improve things.

But this is a reminder that using AI for AI’s sake is not the point.

Just because something has “AI” it doesn’t mean it is better.

We need to be careful and use it wisely - not fall for the hype every time we hear “AI”
